Iron Maiden "The Final Frontier" Nº1 em Portugal!

Regresso a casa das férias e recebo a noticia que o novo álbum dos Iron Maiden alcançou o Nº1 do Top de vendas de musica em Portugal, destronando a musica pimba que lá estava. Um grande feito para uma banda de heavy metal sem publicidade cá em Portugal. É verdade que nos últimos anos os álbuns da banda tinham vindo a subir no top 10 nacional mas nunca imaginei que chegasse ao topo das vendas.

Isto vem mostrar a muita gente do meio e na comunicação social (televisões, rádios e revistas/jornais), que esta banda tem imensos fãs em Portugal, do norte ao sul do país e que apesar de não ter a publicidade constante nos meios de comunicação, continua a vender muitos álbuns por cá e a ganhar também cada vez mais novos fãs.

Quanto ás minhas férias falarei um pouco mais num próximo tópico.

Os Marretas homenagearam recentemente os Queen e principalmente Freddie Mercury que morreu de Sida (Aids) a 24 de Novembro de 1991. Deixo-vos então aqui o video desta bem divertida homenagem.

Faz hoje 20 anos este clássico do rock pesado. A 8 de Novembro de 1989 os Running Wild editavam o seu 5º álbum de originais intitulado Death or Glory e com ele cimentaram de vez a sua originalidade sonora, com temática ligada aos piratas do mar alto de antigamente, e também o seu look inspirado nas roupas dessa época com o estilo hard rocker.

Este álbum foi editado antes da formação sensacional que esteve presente no período 1992-98. Em 1989 a banda era formada pelo vocalista e guitarrista Rock'n'Rolf, Jens Becker no baixo, Majk Moti nas guitarras e Ian Finlay na bateria.


Tal como nos álbuns anteriores editados nos anos 80, neste álbum as musicas não são tão complexas e rápidas como nos álbuns posteriores (Masquerade, Black Hand Inn ou Pile of Skulls) e a produção não é tão perfeita, mas também não está nada mal. Claro que os álbuns posteriores ficaram conhecidos pelo estilo speed metal da bateria. Apesar de Ian Finlay ser muito bom baterista, está longe da batida poderosa e técnica de Jörg Michaels como em Masquerade ou BHI.

Neste álbum as musicas também foram-se tornando mais melodiosas e mais refinadas e o mesmo foi acontecendo coma voz de Rock'n'Rolf, que se foi tornando igualmente mais poderosa e melódica, tornando-se num registo facilmente reconhecível.


Antes do álbum sair para as lojas, foi editado o single "Bad To The Bone", que teve muito boa aceitação pelo publico e esteve sempre presente nos alinhamentos dos concertos. No entanto este álbum incluí verdadeiras pérolas e clássicos da banda e posso dizer mesmo do heavy metal, tal como, "The Battle of Waterloo", "Renegade", "Marooned", "Tortuga Bay" ou a fabulosa musica de abertura ao álbum, "Riding the Storm". Este álbum abriu definitivamente a portas do mundo aos Running Wild, tornando-os uma das bandas de referencia deste meio musical.

Os britânicos Judas Priest lançaram em Junho o seu 16º album, chamado "Nostradamus". Neste seu novo álbum, os Judas Priest lançaram-se no desafio de contar a vida Nostradamus, famoso médico da Renascença que praticava a astrologia e alquimia do século XVI e famoso pela sua suposta capacidade de vidência deixando como legado um livro de centúrias, versos codificados que seriam previsões do futuro.

Neste álbum duplo, a banda aborda o tema de uma forma musical diferente do que já fez ao longo de mais de 40 anos de carreira.



Mas quem realmente foi Nostradamus?

"Michel de Nostredame, mais conhecido sob o nome de Nostradamus, foi um dos maiores astrólogos e profetas da historia da humanidade.

Tão famoso como controverso e ate mesmo contestado, o legado profético de Nostradamus não permite contudo que se possa ignorar o peso da sua obra nos círculos ocultistas e astrológicos.

Nas biografias, costuma-se dizer que Nostradamus foi médico, contudo algumas teses mais recentes afirmam que Nostradamus nunca concluiu os seus estudos de medicina, sendo que exerceu antes a profissão de Farmacêutico/ Boticário, ao mesmo tempo que praticava a astrologia e a alquimia.

Nostradamus Nasceu em 14 de Dezembro de 1503 em Saint-Rémy-de-Provence; Nostradamus sofria de Epilepsia psíquica, assim como alguns problemas ósseos e pulmunares.

Nostradamus era filho de Jaumet (ou Jacques) de Nostredame e Reynière (ou Renée) de Saint-Rémy. Nostradamus foi o mais velho de 8 filhos do casal Nostredame. O nome Nostredame vem do seu bisavô judeu, que escolheu o nome de Pierre de Nostredame quando da sua conversão ao catolicismo.

Nostradamus ficou historicamente famoso pelos seus estudos astrológicos, assim como pelos seus dons proféticos. Contudo, se as praticas astrológicas de Nostradamus são fáceis de explicar, ninguém sabe ao certo qual o método que Nostradamus usaria para produzir as suas famosas e admiráveis profecias. Existem alguns relatos do próprio quanto a esse método profético, contudo são demasiadamente vagos. Diz-se que Nostradamus teve em sua posse um ancestral livro de saberes proféticos com grande poder, e que depois de escrever a sua ultima profecia o destruiu, por temer que essa obra caísse nas mãos erradas. Não se sabe se isto se trata apenas de uma lenda.

Nostradamus frequentou o curso de Medicina, contudo não concluiu os seus estudos, havendo abandonado a Universidade.

Havendo desistido da carreira académica, Nostradamus optou depois pela carreira de Farmacêutico / boticário, tendo sido razoavelmente bem sucedido nessa pratica.

Nos tempos em que a peste negra atingiu a Europa, Nostradamus conseguiu bons resultados na luta contra a peste, em parte através da aplicação de praticas de higiene pública e técnicas de higiene pessoal.

No entanto uma tragédia atingiu a vida de Nostradamus.

O homem que tantos resultados tinha obtido na sua luta contra a peste negra, acabou sendo vitima da doença da pior forma: perdeu a sua esposa e filhos, que morreram da doença que infestou a Europa.

Nostradamus ficou devastado, e há quem afirme qe foi este o ponto de viragem na sua vida."

Deixo aqui as minhas impressoes sobre o album que deixei num forum americano:

The general feeling of the album is a Judas Priest meets Rhapsody/Nightwish but not so pompous. The man even sings in Italian (this must please the italian fans). Being a conceptual album, it will take some ppl to get into it.

The sound and feeling of the guitars and drums but mainly the guitars remembers me the 70's albums like Stained Class, Hell Bent and even British Steel, even in some compositations. Some sound effects here and there to set the mood. Very good riffs and guitar solos and some catchy chorus. The voice of the man doesn't sound so strong like in the solo stuff but fits quite well here.


Now CD2, I have to say that is not as good has CD1. More midtempo long songs, some acustic. Neverthess, this doesn't makes it sound bad, it just the length I complain,. Some of the interludes, like in the CD1, are very good and help to create the mood for the album and history and the next song that follows.

What makes this CD2 to be not bad, is the quallity of some songs that are the highlights of this part like Nostradamus, Future of Mankind or Exiled.

Don't be surprised to find some influences of Pink Floyd or Ayreon in some songs, mainly the calm/acustic ones


A very cinematographic album I must say.

A 10 de Maio de 2003, o cantor de rock, Jeff Scott Soto e a sua banda deram um fabuloso concerto na Convenção dos Queen, acontece todos os anos.Conhecido como grande vocalista de bandas como Yngwie J. Malmsteen, Talisman, Eyes, Axel Rudi Pell, Journey, etc.

Como grande fan dos Queen, Jeff Scott Soto preparou um concerto de excelencia que ficasse ao nivel de qualidade dos Queen, tocando para mais de 2500 fans. Numa actuação com mais de 2 horas, Jeff Scott Soto percorreu toda a discografia dos Queen.

Um verdadeiro tributo a esta historica banda de rock que são os Queen.

“The Chemical Wedding” o 5º álbum da carreira a solo do vocalista dos Iron Maiden, celebra hoje 10 anos aniversario aquando do seu lançamento a 15 de Setembro de 1998. Continuando na sua fase de regresso ao universo do heavy metal onde os seus méritos foram reconhecidos, Bruce Dickinson regressa mais motivado do que nunca depois do anterior álbum “Accident Of Birth(1997)” ter recebidos criticas bastante positivas.


Novamente contando com a ajuda dos membros que participaram no álbum anterior estão o Adrian Smith nas guitarras, Eddie Casillas no baixo, David Ingraham na bateria e Roy Z como guitarrista e produtor, manteve o nível lá em cima, com clássicos instantâneos como “The Tower”, “Book Of Thel”, Killing Floor” e a faixa título, além das belas baladas “Gates Of Urizen” e “Jerusalem”. Centrado na ciência do oculto, alquimia e na poesia de William Blake, onde a essência das letras traz um conteúdo lírico ímpar, impecável. “The Chemical Wedding” revelou-se um álbum mais pesado, mais elaborado, mais técnico e sombrio, não perdendo com isso a sua melodia reconhecida e refrões orelhudos. As guitarras pesadíssimas para os padrões do metal tradicional promovem uma revolução no estilo, executando riffs deliciosos e solos eficientes. Adrian Smith é a grande surpresa do álbum. Além da impecável execução, mostra-se especialista em composição de solos carregados de feeling. Bruce Dickinson adopta um estilo ligeiramente diferente do habitual, pois acrescenta mais agressividade, utilizando tonalidades mais graves.


Aclamado como um dos melhores álbuns da sua carreira a solo e do anos de 1998(deixando para trás o álbum Virtual XI dos Iron Maiden editado nesse mesmo ano), a banda embarcou num tournee de grande sucesso, culminando em 1999 no Brasil a 25 de Abril em São Paulo(que daria origem ao seu 2º álbum ao vivo “Scream For Me Brazil”.
Um álbum que eu recomendo vivamente.

Ross The Boss, o ex-guitarrista, co-fundador e um dos principais compositores dos Manowar, regressa em 2008 com sua própria banda de heavy metal e com o álbum de estreia “New Metal Leader”, destilando riffs música após música.

Finalmente após 20 anos desde a sua última participação no álbum “Kings Of Metal” dos Manowar, Ross The Boss continua o legado do “true metal” que não nega as suas raízes e o seu passado e mostra o seu estilo carismático criando excelentes músicas. Neste album podemos encontrar o estilo e o feelling comparaveis aos albuns Battle Hymns”, “Into Glory Ride”, “Hail To England” and “Sign Of The Hammer”. Podemos encontrar os riffs memoráveis que Ross The Boss sempre nos habituou que nos fazem lembrar musicas como “Plague of Lies” ou “I Got The Right” como “Blood Of Knives”, que podiam, perfeitamente estar entre os clássicos dos Manowar entre 1982-1988. Mas também encontramos musicas rápidas emocionantes como “Death & Glory”, os gritos de guerra da pesadíssima “We Will Kill”, a vertente mais rockeira em “May The Gods Be With You” e que demonstram a diversidade de talento de Ross The Boss. Conan, O Barbaro (1982)

Este fim de semana que passou revi este clássico do cinema. Uma espectacular adaptação da personagem criada por Robert E. Howard ao cinema.

Um filme que nos transporta de uma forma muito bem feita aos primórdios da civilização humana, onde o que valia era a força dos músculos e o poder de uma espada. Todo um período onde abundavam deuses e feitiçaria.

É neste mundo, que aparece o lendário guerreiro e herói, Conan O Bárbaro, protagonizado muito bem por Arnold Schwarzenegger, no seu primeiro grande papel no cinema e numa grande produção de Hollywood.

Conan poderia ter sido mais um jovem tranquilo guerreiro não fosse o facto do seu povo ter sido massacrado e ele ter ficado órfão pelo sanguinário Thulsa Doom (James Earl Jones), líder de um culto de impiedosos mercenários. Conan vive uma infância de impiedosa escravidão apenas para vir a ser um gladiador para gáudio dos seus captores.

Enviado para o Oriente para adquirir as melhores técnicas de luta e literatura, Conan libertado, embarca numa sangrenta e perigosa demanda para vingar a morte dos seus pais e seu povo.

Pelo caminho encontra o seu companheiro de luta Subotai (Gerry Lopez) e a sua amada a guerreira Valéria (Sandahl Bergman, conhecida também pelo papel sensual em All That Jazz de 1979) e o feiticeiro Akiro (Mako).

Juntamente com eles, Conan e a sua espada justiceira têm de vencer os seus inimigos sedentos de sangue, numa aventura sobre a coragem, o amor, a força e o carácter e acima de tudo, a vitória do Bem sobre o Mal.

O filme conta com uma espectacular banda sonora de Basil Poledouris (na minha opinião uma das melhores bandas sonoras que alguma vez já se fez para cinema) e uma excelente realização de John Milius.

Um filme preparado ao pormenor, sem foleirices ou cenários e roupas de segunda categoria. Neste filme tentou-se levar ao máximo o detalhe que correspondesse a aquele período antigo da história da civilização humana.


Um filme que recomendo a todos que gostam de filmes de aventuras e fantasia.
